Head, Heart, Hands and Wands (parody)

Wrote this with the help of some friends after I turned in an official “Around Berry” article for the Berry College website.

The first year students have just arrived at Hogwarts’ Berry Campus and already are beginning the education of the head, heart, hands and wands. After their second week of studies, the first years awoke bright and early to the screeching their owls on the morn of 8 September. More than seven hundred students on the Berry College Branch of Hogwarts, with their professors, set out in the college’s annual First-Year Service Day of Magicfulness.

The Last First Fall Week in Review

This week has been a whirlwind. I’ve hardly caught my breath, and I still have a lot to do before it’s officially over. But I thought I’d jot a few things down.

This was my last first week of fall semester as an undergrad. I really haven’t been that sentimental about it, as my roommate will testify. It’s not that I want to be done, necessary, or that I’m dying to escape. But I’m ready for the next step. I’m ready to move on. In some ways, I think study abroad’s to blame. The Writing Process

There’s a pretty specific process to how I write scenes.

When I begin work on a manuscript, I usually have a really vague plot for the entire piece, a more specific plot outline for the story arc I’m in, and a really, really specific outline and ideas for the scenes I’m actually writing.

What this came down to (as I pinpointed what the young fellow really meant) was: How do you get away with what you want to get away with, but still get published?
